How to write an eye-catching resume

Writing an eye-catching resume that will help your resume stand out and put your resume in the stack for a second review is very important to any job search.  Bad formatting can ruin your job chances even if your qualifications make you perfect for the Job.  The parts of your resume need to be clear and concise, include key words, and be well organized and easy to read.

Instructions

1

Get started by taking notes on your skills and experience.  Use a thesaurus to help you find good key words.  Make sure you have all the information on your past employment handy for reference.  Create a draft before you begin typing.

2

Put your name, and contact information at the top of your resume.  You can center it or not but use an interesting font and bold your name and put your name in a font size larger than the rest of the text.  You want to stand out.  Include your desired or relevant job title as a Headline under you name and contact information.  Be sure and Center and bold this information and place it in a larger font thant the regular text of the resume.  This helps you stand out to employers, they now know who you are and the kind of job you are seeking.

3

Summarize your job skills at the top of your resume before you begin listing your job history.  Be sure to put the titles of different sections of your resume in Bold letters and with slightly larger fonts than the text.  Use bullets to separate each skill.  Use two or three columns in this section to help save resume space and to include all your abilities.

4

In the body of your resume, you can help the details stand out with formating choices.  Place the names of the companies you've worked for, the job titles you've had in larger fonts, in bold, and even in a different color than the main text.  Less relevant information such as job location and dates worked can be typed in smaller fonts to save space.  Stagger line information by centering a job title, left aligning the Company, and right aligning the dates of emplyment.  This will help organize the information of your resume and make it easier to read.

5

Don't be concerned with listing every job duty you had with each company because you hopefully have covered your abilities in the skills section.  Instead describe the size of the company you worked for, your title and list your main accomplishments with each company.  Use bullets to separate accomplishments.  Bold key words to help your accomplishments stand out.

6

List education and training and organizational affiliations and certificates at the end of the resume.  Don't be afraid to include hobbies, or volunteer activities, especially if it is relevant to the jobs you are seeking.   Be sure and review your resume carefully for errors.  And also, let a friends and family review your resume for mistakes and also for their impressions.  Did they think it was clear, relevant and easy to read?  Is there anything in your resume that was difficult to understand?  Make changes accordingly.

Good luck in your job search!
